My honours research focuses on analyzing genetic characteristics that may contribute towards the slow recovery of St. Lawrence belugas. Specifically, this study aims to identify regions of homozygosity at specific sites across the genome of individual belugas and investigate how these may be linked to mortality risk. As a fourth-year student at Dalhousie University, completing a combined honours degree in Marine Biology and Ocean Sciences, my academic interests center around marine mammal conservation, particularly in the context of climate change. I am also very interested in the role of social culture in large marine mammals and how it influences their recovery amid changing environmental conditions.
